Ease into Fall with this Pear Recipe

ortriketab

This is a modification of a traditional Chinese food recipe for moistening the lungs and therefore eliminating dry cough as well as helping to drive out excess mucus and phlegm. The pears & honey tonify the Lung (& Stomach) yin, while the cinnamon and ginger warm the digestive yang and open our Lungs so that we might optimize the Qi from the foods and distribute the yin appropriately. This is a brilliant recipe to use at the beginning of and through the Autumn season in order to strengthen the lung system (think immunity) and prepare for the winter season. I use it for myself and my 3 children every season with great benefit. What’s even more is that there is clinical research to support the powerful benefits of pears on the microbiome and lung health. Compounds, such as caffeic acid that are naturally occurring in varieties of pears have been found to have neuroprotective properties. Research also suggests that the compounds in pears help to detoxify the lungs from pollutants and increase allergic immunity. Pears also contain flavonoids, these are free-radical scavengers, inhibitors of cellular proliferation, as well as have potential use as antibiotic, anti-allergic, anti-diarrheal, anti-ulcer, and anti-inflammatory, and anticancer.*
